SKIN CANCER ARTICLES
BY
IVAN HINCE
If we are
all truthful most of us like to look good especially
when we come back off our holidays. It's great to
show off your holiday snaps and it's good to show off a
good tan.
But if we
only realised that over one million people will be diagnosed with skin
cancer each year and how that number is rapidly increasing.
It
doesn't take much to be out in the sun to get a skin
cancer as scientists tell us that the protective ozone
layer is getting thinner, and that the harmful ultra
violet light can soon burn us.
Most of
us if were honest tend to think that cancers of any sort
tend to happen to others and that we ourselves are
immune.
One
Television documentary did shock me when they spoke
about young girls of thirteen and fourteen were going to
tanning studios so that they could get that super
bronzed look like their favourite film stars or pop
stars.
Yes
there are legislations on the age of using these tanning
studios but in a lot of cases cash came first with many
of the owners of these stores.
Being
prepared is one of the most important things to bare in
mind when going out into the sun, and that by wearing
the right clothes or by protecting yourself with the
right sun cream can make all the difference.
Five
years ago it seemed as thou the highest factor sun cream
was 15 or 20 but now they are more like 30 or 50.
The higher you get that number the safer you will be.
After
being out in the sun detection for spotting those tell
tale burns or marks are most important. If you
have exposed your back have a friend check it for you as
early detection can save your life.
Also
knowing what to look for helps, and please at this point
check yourself for moles or blemishes. If an area
looks sore, or if a mole looks as thou its spreading or
bleeding slightly have yourself checked out by a Doctor.
Doctors
do understand even if the mark or blemish is not cancer
related they would rather you have them checked out than
have you die with skin cancer.
One
last thing before I finish this short article I have
noticed when people are on holiday at the beach they
tend to put on sun cream on themselves or their
children, and even when they come out of the pool or the
sea they put on more cream. But at home in the
garden when the children are running about the garden,
or their just sitting having a few drinks with friends
nobody tends to think about protection and this is where
a lot of damage can be done.
So
always remember. Skin cancer happens time and time
again.
Please
note that I am not a Doctor or am I qualified to give
advice, and the only thing I like to think I offer is
good common sense advice.
