OSTEOPOROSIS PREVENTION
BY
IVAN HINCE.
Osteoporosis prevention is one of those things we should
look at seriously as statistics tell us that one in
three women over the age of 50 will be sufferers.
But you
don't have to be over 50 to have problems neither do you
have to be a woman. Men and children can suffer as
well but not so frequently.
A lot
of people have heard the word
Osteoporosis but very few
will know what it is, and most will find out when they
have problems like a broken bone or a fracture.
Then
you come up against a brick wall as
Osteoporosis symptoms are very hard to detect which makes Osteoporosis
prevention almost impossible.
Most
sufferers tend to have aching bones or symptoms like
that of arthritis yet as you get older almost everyone
tends to get aching bones so it is easy to push it to
the back of your mind.
When it
gets to that stage the body has a lot of work to do to
combat this illness and in traditional medicine all the
Doctor's will be able to do is offer pain killers and
supplements like calcium.
There
are a lot of diseases today and I guess for quite some
time now there always have been that cannot be cured
according to modern medical practice. They do have
a lot more information that will help but in most cases
there is no permanent cure.
Having
an interest in Alternative medicine I was impressed by a
Osteoporosis website which with the backing of
medical research has begun to put a different light on a
lot of diseases that once were thought incurable.
What
they were saying that it's due to the food and drink
that causes the problems in the first place, and if we
adjust the type of food and drink to that of an alkaline
nature the body then will in turn heal itself.
At
first I thought this sounded a little of something out
of science fiction yet the more I read the more I
believed it would work.
Trying
to explain medical research on Osteoporosis can be complicated but I will try to keep
things as straight forward as I can.
They
worked out that the
body is made up mostly of liquid and how all liquids
fall into one of three categories. First their's acidic, then
there's neutral, and last there's alkaline and all these
are measured by "ph".
If we
eat or drink a lot of acidic foods the body will not be able to
cope. The only way it can cope is by storing the
excess in your fatty issues in your body. But by
doing so it will also put acid into the system which is
what causes the problems.
This
just like someone who suffers with gout its the
acid content that crystallises in the joints to cause so
much pain.
With Osteoporosis the same thing happens only the acid tends
to eat into the bones making them brittle.
In an
ideal world we should try to eat more alkaline foods and
by doing so the problems can then be reversed but on
saying that for someone who is suffering in a bad way
this will take a long time.
These
ideas have already helped thousands of sufferers get back to
some normal type of life.
Parkinson's,
Alzheimer's,
Cancer, and many more diseases
have been turned around buy by eating and drinking the right
type of foods, which then will give the body a chance to
heal itself and the less chance of anyone getting Osteoporosis in the first place.
At this
point you may be wondering what are alkaline foods, and
what should you be eating.
Alkaline foods are mainly fresh fruit and vegetables,
and that acidic foods are things like meat, sugar based
products like biscuits, and cakes. Artificial
sweeteners, chocolate, and products with preservative
it. This means fast foods.
Please
note that I'm not saying that you should cut out all
acidic foods but to cut down on the portions would be
sensible.
So to
sum up I think that Osteoporosis prevention is as
important as a woman checking herself for cancer of the
breast and hopefully in years to come we all can have a
test each year that will put an end to Osteoporosis or
at least catch it early enough to prevent some of the
major problems.
I
did find a very interesting site that you might want to
check out which offers a natural cure for Osteoporosis.
